The sound of frenzied, running footsteps could be heard pattering against the cold, slightly damp ground as bright flashes danced across the large park, and low shouts rose into the air. It was well into the night, a little past midnight, so there was little to no activity here. A figure leaped over a wooden bench and landed in a tumbling roll on the ground just as a certain tall, dark-haired man, dressed in a weathered, dark brown leather jacket and black jeans, came hurtling after the figure.
A frown of both a mixture of annoyance and concentration was affixed to his stern facade, as the Auror sprinted towards the criminal in pursuit and lifted his wand, pointing it at the target's back. The spell he wanted in mind was about to be summoned, but at that moment, the dark witch managed to scramble to her feet and hurled an "Expulso!" curse, which Nic immediately recognized, seeing the blue flash appear from the witch's wand. Letting a low hiss escape his clenched teeth, Nic was forced to lunge to the side to avoid getting hit by the curse, as the blue light hurtled past him and ended in a loud banging noise, crashing off against the trunk of a tree.
In his distraction, he heard the witch quickly scamper to get away from him, her hurried footsteps departing from him. Annoyed, Nic jumped to his feet, and stood firmly on the ground, pointing his wand at the witch's fleeing figure. "Impedimenta!" At once, a bright, turquoise light flashed from the tip of his long wand, hurtling towards the target in question and effectively caused the witch to cry out as she found herself suddenly jerked backwards, momentarily immobilized. Taking moment of the witch's disadvantage, as the jinx would only last for a few seconds, Nic rushed towards as he flicked his wand again, "Expelliarmus," he groused out. At once, the witch's wand flew out of her hand and landed in the grass, rolling some feet away from her reach.
Upon closer approach, the Auror clamped a hand over her shoulder, "Your days of running end here, and don't-" His statement was sharply cut off in a sharp hiss when he felt something sink into his thigh, and he looked down to see that the jinx had worn off the witch in question as she smirked, pulling the dagger out. Then he was shoved roughly to the ground, causing him to groan as he pressed his other hand against his bleeding leg, crimson liquid spilling through his fingers. He slowly stood up to his feet, struggling to aim his wand, but there was a whooshing sound of Disapparation. Shit, shit.
As he slid down to the ground, blinking as spots of pain shot through his leg and sent unpleasant chills down his body, Nic let out a shaky breath, trying to focus on breathing. His sides were also bruised, from an earlier duel he'd been in with another dark wizard before he and his partner were forced to separate to chase down the other remaining dark wizards. Okay, so he needed a mediwizard really soon. Or even a No-Maj doctor would be really useful too. But his brain was too focused on the pain that was currently coursing through him.
