[attr="class","wall"] [attr="class","wbord"] [attr="class","wbox"] [attr="class","wcover"] [attr="class","wgroup"] [attr="class","wlyrics"] @open Perry is stressed, as always! |
The coffee clinked onto the saucer as Perry licked his lower lip in concentration. He had been pouring over paperwork for hours - or what felt like hours. They weren't even important documents, much to Perry's displeasure. He had been put in change of job applications for a new selection of aurors and hit wizards. Not by any means the most glamorous of jobs, which was why he had moved from his desk outside the head of department's office to the little tea shop in the entrance to the congress.
From his seat he could see the comings and goings of all the people in the congress. From just making their way up to the elevator to browsing the gift shop. The reason it was taking Perry so long to do the simplest of jobs was one, his boss was on holiday and didn't need the paperwork done for another week; two was that Perry was obsessed with people watching. He loved to see how people reacted to each other, how they spent time together. He would often watch as people went about their day and make up lives for them in his head. Why were they at the congress? Were they there for something good, or something bad? What did they have to go home to?
Running his fingertip around the rim of his coffee he looked back down at the application that had been sat in his hand for the last ten minutes. On paper the person looked like model auror material but it was never just down to paperwork anymore. There were tests, trials and so much more. Perry moved the paper to the yes pile and grabbed the next one.
Really? You want a job in magical law but you can't even spell check your application, no thanks, he muttered to himself, immediately putting the paper in the no pile. Reaching for his coffee cup he gave it a swirl before taking the last sip, a frown appearing on his face when he realised he was out and would have to actually get up to go and get another cup. Maybe this one he should take to go and head back to his desk...or he could sit a while longer.

It had been two years since her accident, but it still felt like just yesterday that she had woken up in the hospital. Perhaps it was because she had woken up in cold sweats that morning, having relieved the incident over and over again. No matter what she did, she could not run away from her past and it was determined to drag her down to the deepest, darkest parts of her mind. Kinsley knew she had to overcome these obstacles. That people had stopped feeling sorry for her and now felt irritated that she had not recovered yet. She could see it in her parent’s eyes. They wanted their old daughter back, but did that girl even exist anymore? Even if she could overcome them… it had been two years. She was too afraid to move on from the person she had dreamed to become. If she let that go then what ties did she have to that former life? Without that, what would she become? Not being an auror was like not knowing who she was anymore. Kinsley had not been back to the congress in a long time. It was too painful to be reminded of what she used to have, but life didn’t care. They needed her to come down to get some paperwork done. She vaguely remembered the reason, only that her mother and called to remind her of her appointment. She could barely stand the place and was itching to get out. It felt as though every pair of eyes were on her wondering ’What’s wrong with her?’Finally outside, she felt like she could breathe again. She wouldn’t allow herself to look back and instead, she wanted to escape to anywhere else. It took a moment to realize though, that she was focused on something… rather, someone. His features came into focus and she realized who she was watching. Perry. Her muscles dare tug at the corner of her lips, but she refused the smile. Before she could realize what she was doing, she was heading his way. They had years of history together and despite how she felt, she couldn’t just throw everything away… right? Coming to stand across from him, she caught his last remark before setting the paper down on what she supposed was the ‘no’ pile. A pang of jealousy hit her for the ones on the ‘yes’ pile. She had been through that process before and she had to force herself past those thoughts. “Shouldn’t be so hard on them,” she commented lightly. “Actually, I take that back. We’ve got enough idiots around here that we’ll need your keen sense of judgment.” She looked up at Perry, squinting lightly as the sun shone down on them. She couldn’t remember the last time she had actually spoken to him. She knew he had reached out to her after the accident, but all of that felt like such a haze. Here she was now though, with an old friend. “Hi, Perry,” she said softly.
OCC: Hope this is okay. I'm battling a headache. Lemme know if it works or if it doesn't. Either way, I'm excited to see what comes of these two!

[attr="class","wall"] Perry looked up at the voice, half confused half surprised. He hadn't heard that tone in a long time. Just under two years in fact. After her accident. Of course Perry had heard about it, who hadn't? But he didn't know the details, didn't know why she had turned her back on her job and her friends. Didn't understand how she had cut him off so easily.
They had been friends, Perry would have even gone as far as to say close friends. Which was weird, because to the prying eye, Perry didn't do friends. He didn't hang around with anyone in particular, or stand by the water fountain with the other men gawping over the short skirts of the witches nearby. He was a man intent on working hard and rarely bothered with the company of others. But they had found himself on training together, basic first aid; which on paper sounded fun but in real life was a total drag. They had learnt simple healing spells and even a few no-maj techniques for those moments when they were caught in the crossfire. Perry and Kinsley had ended up wrapped in far too many bandages, tripping over each other and distracting everyone else from their training. It had been the first and last time Perry had been called to the office to be reprimanded for misconduct.
But then one day she was gone. With no note, no message nothing. Perry had tried and tried to reach out to her, but when his owl's were unanswered he stopped. There was no point chasing someone if they didn't want to be chased.
He narrowed his eyes slightly, wondering why on earth she had suddenly appeared back in his life. With no warning, he thought to himself. But that part of his mind was quickly squashed as he found his body making his mind up for him. Getting to his feet he pulled her into a tight hug, squeezing her lightly. Without saying a word he felt his shoulders grow lighter. Like he had been holding onto the weight of her rejection. But now she was here, she was safe and he could see her right there.
He smiled softly and pulled away from the hug, giving her a once over. She looked good, the break from the congress seemed like it had treated her well.
Well, fancy seeing you back here, he said, indicating for her to sit in the empty chair opposite. It's been a while, would you like a drink? Are you staying long? Perry realised he might have said that all quite fast. But it had been a long time and they had a lot to catch up on. Plus there were things he needed to know before she vanished again.

To be quite honest, Kinsley didn’t know what to expect. She had literally cut everyone out from her life. She had not thought twice about it at the time… but after two years later, it was probably not the wisest thing to do. They were only trying to reach out to her to help her, to support her, and to show her that they cared about her, but all that would’ve done was remind her that she was miserable. That she was damaged beyond repair. Her friend and co-worker had betrayed her and her team. She didn’t want to see the look of pity in people’s eyes and their sympathetic words of 'It was going to get better.’ How did they know if it was going to get better? That would only have given her false hope because two years later… she was still handicapped.
She knew she had made mistakes. She actually didn’t even realize how much she missed Perry until she saw him. She half expected him to shout at her and tell her to go screw herself. She had made her decision years ago and everyone had moved on. She had no right to open old wounds and drop in out of the blue. She was surprised when she felt his arms wrap around her and she hugged him back tightly. She didn’t want to let go. What if this was a dream?
Feeling the tip of her nose tingle, she tried to keep her composure. She wasn’t going to let herself fall to pieces over a hug… even if it was a hug she hadn’t gotten for two years. Instead, she offered a light smile as he pulled back.
Taking the seat across from him, the eagerness to go home right away seemed to diminish. “I was actually heading home, but I couldn’t pass up saying hi,” she felt a pang of guilt pull at her chest. She had done precisely that two years ago.
“But I could do with a cup of tea,” but she’d wait for the waiter to come around. “You look good,” she remarked, giving him a once over. “You've been getting laid?” She asked a bit crudely, but she meant it as a joke. Kinsley was never shy talking about intimacy. Besides, she knew how much he worked. She wondered if he was in a relationship now… on top of everything else that might’ve changed since she last saw him.

[attr="class","wall"] Perry smiled as she sat down - he had half expected her to decline or make up some excuse to avoid talking to him. But he was pleasantly surprised and waved the waiter over to order. If they had been at Perry's apartment, he would have remembered exactly how she had her tea, but he left it up to her and just ordered a pot with two cups, then they could pour themselves and she could make it as she liked.
He blinked but didn't say anything at her comment. She couldn't pass up a chance to say hi? But she could wait two years to say it? She could avoid his owls, his letters, but now that she was sitting in front of him, she could say hi? He nodded slowly, not bothering to make a big deal out of it. He didn't want to push her away any more than she clearly had been.
Grinning at her next comment he sat back in his chair, I mean, I cannot confirm or deny that the new auror is very attractive. Shrugging he sat forward as the tea arrived. He had gone around the office bit, but no one said anything about it for the fear of being sacked. That was what came with power.
And what about you? A man on the scene? he asked with a sly smile. They had always been open about their relationships, bitching about boys on the couch with a glass of wine and a cheesy movie. It had been a fun time ... he missed it. More than he cared to admit. He couldn't understand why she had just upped and left. Why there was clearly a big secret between the two of them. But he couldn't just blurt out why, or what had made her leave.
There had been rumours, of course. Pregnancy, ill parents, the usual things. But Perry assumed that those things would be something she told him. So he had ignored them, trying not to intervene. But maybe, maybe it was something so simple.
He reached over the table, pouring the tea into two cups. Adding milk and sugar to his own.
Where are you working now? Somewhere nicer than here? he teased, they had often joked about all the things wrong with the MACUSA building. That any job was better than the one they had - though they never meant it. Well, Perry hadn't. It seemed Kinsley might have done.

Kinsley knew she had done so many wrongs in the wake of her accident. She was not proud of them, but she couldn’t take them back. She could only move forward. Kinsley would’ve understood if Perry didn’t want to speak to her. He had every right not to forgive her, but she chanced facing him and taking the rejection. He deserved that much. But she felt such relief when he embraced her. She could still feel his warmth from his hug and she wanted to hold on to that. It was a fleeting glimpse of her past when she was happy.
Laughing lightly at his quip about the new auror, Kinsley wouldn’t have been surprised if he was in a relationship. Then again… she wasn’t surprised to hear he was single either. Perry was quite a catch. If she had the option, she’d stay single and mingle. Instead, she was just sadly alone. In fact, if Perry swung her way, she knew she’d jump him at the first chance, but she’d settle for being friend… if he’d still take her. Adding some cream and sugar to her tea, she stirred the mixture with her teaspoon before setting it down on the saucer. She loved watching the milk swirl as it turned light brown.
Taking a sip of her tea, she shook her head lightly. “No, but I’m not really looking.” Her gaze fell away. It was true that she wasn’t looking, but she missed being with someone. It had been over two years since she’d been intimate with anyone, but she hardly found that appropriate to bring up now.
Lifting her gaze, she smiled lightly at him. “I actually work at the school now. I’m the new librarian. I know… it seems I’ve out-nerded you,” she teased lightly. “With my disability, I expect it won’t take too much out of me, but it’ll keep me busy,” she tried to explain with an upbeat tone, but it was hard. Being a librarian was not her dream job. She felt her chest quiver and she looked away again. It hadn’t even occurred to her that Perry might not know what had happened to her. Instead, she drew in a deep breath. Her gaze stopped somewhere between he and the table, unable to look at him directly. “I’m sorry,” she finally confessed, her tone shaking.

[attr="class","wall"] Perry listened, softly sipping his hot tea. She seemed like there was a part of her missing. She wasn't looking for a man? Well that was certainly something new. They always used to go out and find cute men together. They made it into a competition between friends. But a bar in the middle of the night didn't seem like the type of place he would find her anymore. They had never taken relationships too seriously and they had enjoyed every minute of it - well, Perry had for sure. He missed having someone there with him, who had his back and who he had theirs. No one at MACUSA was quite the same. He had tried to fill in the gaps that Kinsey had left, but had ultimately just stuffed in more work and less play time.
It had paid off and Perry was now nearly the head of his department, with more money than he really knew what to do with. But he didn't feel like a person anymore. He just felt like one of those no-maj robot things. Just living to survive.
His eyes widened as she mentioned the school. Ilvermorny had been an eye-opener for Perry. His parents had home-schooled him through his young magic life and while he appreciated the help, it hadn't been much preparation for actual school. But he had enjoyed it all the same, and had made a friend or two that he still kept in contact.
How dare you, he exclaimed, clutching his hand over his heart dramatically. I am not a nerd. He couldn't help but smile as he realised how quickly they had gone back to teasing each other.
But then she said something he wasn't prepared for. Your disability? Kinsley, what happened to you? he asked, leaning forward slightly to reach for her hand with his own. He didn't want to push her away, but he also couldn't have her come back into his life like nothing was wrong when clearly something was.
You don't have to tell me, but I'm still your friend.
