ELENA MA

[attr="class","dropfrumbodytxt"]There were days when Elena would wake up smothered in the ink from another exploded pen, her books sprawling all around her; her bed, her floor even stacked up in some vain attempt to keep order. She would gingerly clamber out of bed, as if she was hungover. But Elena didn't drink, not anymore. She had probably been up late reading again, or learning a language or translating a piece of text or researching. She'd pad around her tiny apartment in bare feet, looking for an oversized jumper to cover her skinny frame, the only thing that really kept her warm these days - and if she wasn't going out anywhere a shirt would be unnecessary. Making herself a cup of coffee she would curl up in her favourite chair - also covered in paper and books - and remain there for the rest of the day. Unless she was working, in which case she would be a flurry of papers and clothes and forgotten books as she scrambled to get out of the door on time.

Elena has been working at Ilvermorny for the last two years as the Herbology professor. She applied for the job after the last professor found she was allergic to a few key plants kept in the Ilvermorny greenhouses. But Elena loves it, except in her scatterbrainedness she tends to run late for classes and forget what she's supposed to be teaching that day. Somehow the students are warm to her and allow her the mistakes. They just refer to her as Ma - Miss Ma is far too formal and Professor Ma is even worse.

She's patient and kind with people if they are with her, if not she can be snappy and quite rude without realising it. But people tend to be quite respectful towards an Ilvermorny teacher so the cattiness doesn't show up that often.

Elena is pretty forgetful and will forget anything important if she doesn't write it down. Useless facts, however, she can recall at any moment, which frustrates her more than she lets on, especially when she remembers those over birthdays and celebrations. Though she doesn't let on, it's the main reason why her short marriage failed.

She's looking to grow in her knowledge of Herbology and hopes to eventually work with someone on those gravity resisting trees she's heard so much about. Until then she'll remain a teacher and spread her love of learning onto others.
