Family History
According to family tradition, the Xia family dates back to and is directly connected to the first dynasty of China. Throughout his life, however, Nox has maintained the idea that this is a very large over exaggeration. That said, even he can't argue with the idea of the family being at least several centuries old based on the ancestral shrine within his home. Similarly, the Xia family has been renowned as one of the oldest and most influential Pureblood families to exist in China. As a result the family has maintained strong political influence in the country, as well as often holding various high ranking offices within the government.

Born in Shanghai, Nox's family relocated a few years later to the United States after his father was assigned as a liaison to MACUSA's Department of International Magical Cooperation. Nox is the second of five children, though being the first born son generally gave him preferential treatment over his other siblings, including Natalie, his older sister, who always resented Nox for it. Due to being the first born son it was always expected of Nox to become the proper heir the Xia family wanted, though it was fairly clear from an early age that Nox would likely not meet his families demands.

Early Life
For the most part Nox's life growing up was uneventful and rather boring. He spent his early days learning proper manners, which he diligently ignores, studying various historical periods, that he couldn't care less about, and learning to play various board games like Go and Chess. Both of which he is actually quite fond of. Otherwise his time was spent playing with or playing pranks on his younger sisters, and eventually his younger brother, all the while avoiding his older sister at all costs. For the most part of his early childhood Nox's best friend was Raina, the daughter of one of the servant families within their household.

School Years
Nox's early years at school were rather uneventful, aside from the few instances when his older sister decided to torment him. He met MURPHY URQUHART on the first day and almost immediately became best friends with her. For the most part he kept to himself and only made a handful of other friends throughout the years. More than anything he missed Raina, at least until she entered school as well, and often spent his time exploring the school at night until he ended up falling asleep in extremely secluded areas such as closets.

During Nox's sixth year he began dating a girl named Hazel, whom his family severely disapproved of due to the fact that she was a werewolf. The relationship was his first, and so far only, serious relationship, making it all the harder when she dropped out of school, as well as Nox's life around Christmas in their seventh year. Though her motives were never explicitly clear, Nox always understood it to be due to outside pressures from her being a werewolf. And though he understood why she would need to separate herself from the world for a while, it didn't make it any easier to cope with her loss.

Post School Years
After leaving school, as well as losing his place within his family due to his choices in life, Nox spent a year wandering the world unsure of what to do with his new found freedom. His travels, however, were cut short when his older sister Natalie, who had been attempting to find him once she learned he had been disowned, finally caught up with him while he was squatting in one of their summer homes. After another few months of Nox trying desperately to hide from her, Natalie again caught up with him and backed him into a corner. Their bitter relationship finally came to a head, and by the end of the encounter Natalie was dead in the street and Nox escaped, just barely, with his life, winding up at Murphy's apartment immediately after.

Since then Nox has made a life for himself in New York, with work coming in the form of odd jobs, usually questionable in the legal aspect. For the most part he acts as a fence for Murphy, usually selling dubious items to contacts he knows worldwide, as well as giving sorts of appraisals to items of unclear value. Otherwise he sells political information to whoever might need it, as he still maintains a somewhat healthy relationship with his younger brother Virgil, who is now seen as heir-apparent to the Xia family, and as such often knows details about the goings on within MACUSA.

As it stands he has otherwise mostly reverted to how he was when he was younger, making him extrmely quiet most of the time, and often shies away from social interactions, preferring instead to stay secluded within the apartment. Nox is extremely protective of Murphy, and their cats, often to the point of interrupting dates she has over simply because he doesn't like the person.
