❃❀ "There you are, Sir," Tish smiled, handing over the freshly wrapped flowers and the battered money that was his change. Tish smiled brightly until the doorbell rang out and the door slammed behind him. Rubbing her cheeks with her fingers, she groaned out loud and began tidying away the ribbons and papers she had cut up. She loved working with flowers, with colours and especially with the other staff. What she didn't approve of was people stumbling in at the eleventh hour hoping to get the best bouquet for the cheapest price because they had forgotten an anniversary or birthday. Even more so when they expected her to drop everything to sort them out.
"Oi, is that coffee I smell?" she called to the back room where her co-star and best friend had been hiding for the last ten minutes while his ex-boyfriend had come in to buy flowers for the new partner. What she had failed to mention was that the yellow carnations she had added to the bouquet had been a subtle hit at her disappointment over the guys behaviour. Still, she secretly hoped the new boyfriend was into his horticulture. Scrapping the rubbish into her hand she pressed her foot against the bin lever, popping the lid and discarding the scraps. Wiping her hands down the blue apron she was wearing over her clothes, she brushed her hair back out of her face.
She had been doing this gig for the last three years, and while some customers needed to remove the stick from their asses, most were generally sweet and generous. Especially when it came to giving Tish free reign over the flowers that she put into the displays. Moving around the front of the desk she moved back to the front of the store where she was doing the morning display. It was the start of fall, so everything was going from pinks and blues to browns and oranges. They had even bought in a few wicker animals - squirrels and stags to bulk out the flowers. It was looking good, but she needed a second opinion.
"Milk, two sugars and come and help me with this display!" Tish shouted to the backroom where she heard a scuffle of movement.

[attr="class","xall"] He had seen the man coming from down the street and had immediately retreated into the back room. He could have come back out again right away just as someone else - his metamorphmagus powers were unknown to most people. But there was something about looking your ex in the eyes as they bought flowers for their new lover that made Isam's skin crawl. Besides, he didn't know if he could keep his cool. So he had signalled Tish, his co-host in the shop, and she had been his saving grace.
He sat in the back, listening to their conversation, hoping to Merlin that his name wasn't going to come up - thankfully it didn't and he was left to silently brew the coffee they had been talking about for the last hour. Finally when the door shut he felt his shoulders relax and his smile re-appear.
It might be, what's it to you? he teased as a reply, but he grabbed her mug and began mixing the coffee with milk and sugar. They had been working together for the last two years, though he was often reminded that she had been there a year longer and so, technically, was his boss. But it never really worked that way. They made a good team, most of the time.
Heading out into the shop he handed Tish her mug of coffee and put his down next to a pot of water. It's looking good! What do you need me for? he asked, perching on a crate. They both often spoke of how strange it was that two people with magical powers ended up in the same no-maj shop. But somehow they had ended up together and while they didn't do magic in front of people, they might have slipped the flowers a few potions to perk them up for longer and even levitated some of the displays around to save carrying them.
Thanks for saving my ass, by the way...I'm just not ready to see him yet. What did he ask for anyway? Roses? Isam snorted and shook his head. I bet he did, he knows nothing about girls...or flowers for that matter.

❃❀ Tish gushed at the coffee and quickly picked it back up, despite it burning her fingers slightly. Blowing over the top of her mug, she took a sip savouring the warmth and the taste. Isam had many flaws, but he did know how to make a good coffee and Tish would give him full credit every time. She closed her eyes and quickly took in the smell before putting the mug down and opening them again.
She laughed short and hollow, punching Isam on the arm. "Of course I need your help, dumbass. This ain’t a one woman show," she teased, wiggling her eyebrows knowingly. It had been a huge shock to discover that Isam could effectively transform into anything he wanted. She had called him Mystique for at least six months after. Much to the confusion of the No-Maj’s around them.
But it was a convenient addition and one Tish had shamelessly capitalised on when going on awkward nights out with ‘the girls’. Isam had been snuck into more parties than she cared to admit to. But they had fun, well she did.
"Hey, don’t mention it," she said, waving her hand dismissively, "You’d to the same for me - well you have done the same for me. Remember Harry? Jeez that guy needed to get a clue. Or a fuckin’ brain!"
She laughed, softer and more real this time as she pulled Isam down to peck him on the cheek.
"C’mon, lets not dally. We need to sort out this fall display. Do you think we should use those animals?" she asked, pointing to the wicker deer that had been delivered the night before.

[attr="class","xall"] Isam sat himself down on the window ledge, blowing softly over the top of his coffee to cool it down. He flinched slightly at the punch and rolled his eyes at the reference to his 'superpower'. He had learnt he was a metamorphmagus when his mother had shouted and raged at him for dying his hair blue. He had looked so confused and half terrified until she realised that he must have inherited his grandmother's power. Then came the talk, though not the talk Isam had grownup to believe would be coming - he had that one a lot later in his life. He came to understand that he could change anything about himself, which he did, quite regularly. Just to keep people on their toes. He had covered for Tish when she was ill by simply making himself into her exact copy. Though he had been informed to never do it when Tish could see. It freaked her out - so one Halloween, of course, he had gone to a party Tish was at, as her.
He laughed along with her at the memory of a guy that had kept returning to the flower shop with cheap roses from the local garage as to impress Tish. Clearly that wasn't going to work, but he never seemed to get the hint! So Isam had become her 'boyfriend' just to get the guy off her case.
Looking at the animals she was pointing at, he wrinkled his nose. I mean, they look kind of tacky, but I also love them. Is that bad? he asked. Getting to his feet he walked over, running his hand along the small deer.
What if we stack those crates, fill them with the pumpkins and that stuff over there, he pointed to a small collection of plastic pumpkins and the selection of orange and red flowers they had picked out. Then maybe use the greener stuff underneath the animals? Then scatter with leaves and fairy lights?
He shrugged and picked up what looked like an old cart wheel. What are they expecting us to do with this thing? he laughed, shaking his head and rolling it across the floor with one hand, still balancing his coffee in his other hand.

❃❀ tish laughed and nodded at the tackiness of the wicker animals. she secretly loved them as well and their design really get her into the fall mood. there was something about leaves and sweaters and warm drinks with marshmallows that really reminded tish of the best of times. plus fall brought halloween and halloween meant fancy dress costumes and an excuse to get drunk in a silly outfit. like, what was better than that? especially when tish was able to spend it all with her friends - who might have become more of a bad influence than a good one. Especially isam.
She shook her head and shrugged her shoulder as he began wheeling the cart wheel around the room. stepping into it's path she sent the wheel crashing to the ground with a girly scream and giggle. Picking it back up she rolled it back to the edge of the room and began following isam's plan. it took them about two hours to complete the display. after a lot of coffee and a lot of laughing, tish sat herself down on the edge of the counter, holding her empty mug in her hand.
she smiled softly at the fact both of them had fake leaves in their hair and a slight red tint to their cheeks. it was almost like fall was happening inside as well as outside. but as the end of the work day was crawling in, tish pointed towards the front door. your turn to lock up, she said simply with the sickliest smile on her face. i'll wash up your mug, unless you want another cup? she added, sliding off the counter and picking up both of the well used mugs. the shop had been pretty quiet that afternoon and they had only sold a few bouquets in the time it had taken them to make the displays.
biting her lip she tucked some of her hair behind her ear as she kicked a few leaves into place with her foot. do you have any plans for later? or shall we paint the town? she asked with a teasing smile. she knew that isam was still trying to get over an ex so maybe a night of crazy dancing and partying would be good for him? besides, it never hurt to find a rebound.
